Upon gifting a copy of my book to a Men’s Group Leader, one of his first comments was, “Wiley, you are more disciplined than most of the guys in my accountability group.”
This Men’s Group Leader had my book right in front of him. He hadn’t yet had the time to read it, of course. But he had read its title. A title with the second-line words, “A Spirit-Powered Battle Plan for Purity.” He also teaches the men in his Men’s Group that “trying harder” will not free the addict from his addiction. And yet, his initial take was that “trying harder” had worked for me. Even with all of this evidence before him, it still had not registered that it was the Holy Spirit that deserved all the credit for my extraordinary “discipline.” The Holy Spirit had been snubbed once again [for more on the many ways in which the Spirit is (unintentionally) snubbed, see www.wileygrafbooks.com/news/cure-for-cancer-v9]!
Have we become so wed to flesh-starving accountability that we no longer have “ears to hear” (see www.wileygrafbooks.com/news/ears-to-hear-v9) what the Spirit is saying in this matter of escaping the lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:16)?
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).
A GAME-CHANGING BOOK HAS ARRIVED
In A Way of Escape, readers are cautioned to be careful not to sell the Holy Spirit short. Readers are reminded that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ever ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Readers learn how to escape lusts of the flesh—not by starving the flesh, but—by stepping up the degree to which they “walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16). They learn how to build a library of Spirit-anointed, flesh-diffusing apps. Apps that are uniquely fitted to them, and their unique Spirit-filling triggers (Ephesians 5:18b-19).
The still-struggling now have another option. The still-struggling now have fresh hope for discovering that long-sought-after way of escape from temptation and resulting sin (I Corinthians 10:13). A way that—because it is wholly Spirit-powered—does not require enlisting the aid of an accountability partner or group. Truly, a game-changer!
THANK YOU, HOLY SPIRIT!
