The Holy Spirit is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask—or even think to ask (Ephesians 3:20). All interpret this verse to be acknowledging the omnipotence of God. And rightly so. But might there also be a second reason why the Holy Spirit is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask—or even think to ask?
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (Ephesians 3:20)
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Might the gulf between what we are asking and what the Holy Spirit can accomplish also be wide because we are asking so little of the Holy Spirit?
Might the gulf between what we are asking and what the Holy Spirit can accomplish also be wide because so much of what God intended to accomplish via the Spirit, we are trying to accomplish in our own (or our small group’s) power?
Might the gulf between what we are asking and what the Holy Spirit can accomplish also be wide because self and small groups are trying to fill roles that God intended to be filled by the Holy Spirit?
IN THE WAR AGAINST THE FLESH, OUR MVP IS LARGELY MIA!
All of the higher profile Bible-based purity programs are accountability-based flesh-starvers. With the best of intentions, each insists that accountability is the addict’s only way of escape from addictive lusts of the flesh. But Scripture clearly teaches that there is another way of escape. A wholly Spirit-powered way (Galatians 5:16).
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).
In the war against the flesh, small groups are currently filling roles that could be more easily filled by the Holy Spirit (see www.wileygrafbooks.com/news/press-that-easy-button-v8). In the war against the flesh, our Most Valuable Player (MVP) is largely Missing in Action (MIA)!
